‘Arguably the biggest game the club has ever played in.’
Thamesmead Town were certainly not underselling their FA Cup 3rd Qualifying tie at Ryman Premier League Merstham. Sadly, however, on the day, only the home side turned up, putting in a stylish and professional performance to triumph 5-1 and move on to a home 4th
Qualifying Round tie against National League South Ebbsfleet United. 188 supporters were royally entertained as Merstham cruised into a four goal half time lead whilst the Mead managerial team railed against perceived refereeing injustices, and by the time Thamesmead did begin to get to grips with the game it was as good as over. Henriques, Vidal, Hector and Campbell scored the goals.
A much better second half ended in a draw, with Thamesmead pulling a goal back with nine minutes to go, through Paul Vines. Sadly for Town, however, Merstham went immediately back up the other end and restored their four goal cushion, with Tutu Henriques adding his second of the afternoon.
The Fourth Qualifying Round tie will be played at Moatside on 15th October, 3PM kick off.
